Pros

  • Fun viral trend to try
  • Soft, chewy gummies and thin sour belts crisp up really well
  • Interesting texture change when frozen

Cons

  • Can't say I completely understand the hype
  • Pick the wrong gummies and they'll become hard as rocks
  • Not a strong enough textural difference to be a game changer
  • Sorry to my dentist

Here to break my teeth so you don't have to!! Just kidding, but I had to see what was up with the Korean frozen jelly trend and I can't say I completely understand the hype.

The Trend

This new frozen jelly trend is actually similar to the one that went viral before, but it doesn't involve soaking the gummies in Sprite. You literally just freeze the gummies straight up and eat them, which can be kind of tricky because if you pick the wrong gummies, they'll become hard as rocks.

What I Tried

I made a little gummy salad, froze it for about five hours, and here are the results:

  • Rainbow sour belts — crisp up nicely
  • Peach rings — solid frozen texture
  • Nerds gummy clusters — interesting crunch
  • Squashies — ugh, not great frozen
  • Sour gummy worms — decent
  • Strawberry sour belts — crisp up well

My Recommendation

Freeze the soft, chewy gummies or the thin sour belt ones because those freeze and crisp up really well. Personally, I don't feel a strong desire to freeze my gummies again. I'm perfectly fine with room temperature gummies. I don't think the textural difference is that much of a game changer to me.

Lastly, I'm so sorry to my dentist.
