I swear this Trader Joe's guava jam has me in a chokehold. My guava-maxxing journey continues with these guava marinated short ribs, perfect for your July 4th BBQ. After seeing some sisters on Red Note use this jam as a marinade for their beef, I had to try it myself — especially since I may or may not have stockpiled way too many jars.

The marinade is simple: guava jam, regular soy sauce, dark soy sauce, minced garlic, and oyster sauce (from Lee Kum Kee, the best brand out there). After grilling, I brush on an extra layer of guava jam and soy sauce to create the most delicious sticky glaze.

The flavor is similar to teriyaki with a subtle guava sweetness that pairs so well with the smoky beef. And of course, don't forget to pair it with some guava nectar and sparkling water for the ultimate guava-filled meal this summer season.

Instructions

  1. Soak short ribs in a bowl of water for 30 minutes, then drain.
  2. Prepare the marinade by combining the guava jam, regular soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, minced garlic, and sliced onion. Stir to combine.
  3. Toss the short ribs with the marinade and let marinate for a minimum of 4 hours (overnight for best flavor).
  4. Grill the short ribs for about 15 minutes, flipping halfway through. A pan works too if you're not grilling.
  5. While the ribs cook, prepare the glaze by combining the guava jam, regular soy sauce, and dark soy sauce.
  6. Brush the grilled short ribs generously with the glaze.
  7. Top with sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.
  8. Mix equal parts guava nectar and sparkling water over ice for the ultimate guava drink pairing.
  9. Enjoy!
